Junho Yu is a supporting character in The Warrior Returns. He is the Verdant Warrior and the sole survivor of the group of warriors who sided with the South Korean government against the 9-Warriors.

"Junho Yu's birthday is May 19th"

Appearance[]

Junho Yu is a young man with a feminine face and golden eyes. He has green hair styled with twin bangs framing his face and is dressed in wooden armor with green clothing underneath. In addition, he has two star-shaped flowers adorning his head and a pair of stag-like horns on his head, one shorter than the other.

Personality[]

Junho Yo has been described by Seongjun Lee as being "too kind", which caused him to be killed in several timelines. However, he is also quite perceptive, being able to deduce Seongjun's circumstances and goals from mere observations. In fact, it's due to this kindness that he was chosen to be a Hero in the first place.

According to Junho himself, however, his passivity does not come from sympathy but rather cowardice, lacking the courage to stand up for himself. This is proven somewhat true when he initially did nothing when Minsu Kim began his rampage, constantly making excuses why he should not get involved. However, his true sympathetic nature ultimately pulled through, being unable to bare watching anymore and doing everything he could to aid those around him.

As noted by Seongjun Lee, Junho was always one of the more intelligent and perspective Heroes of his generation. This is shown that where, unlike a majority of his fellow heroes, Junho managed to piece together the true reasons for Seongjun’s actions and ultimately figured out that he was trapped in a time-loop due to his ability and this was the reason why he went through such extreme lengths to create a Demon Lord by corrupting Minsu Kim. As shown, upon figuring out the truth and that Seongjun was originally his friend and comrade, Junho was brought to tears and expressed deep sympathy for Seongjun and the suffering he had endured. Furthermore, unlike a majority of people and the other remaining heroes, Junho was also able to figure out and notice how Hwarang Hong and Vampir, who had stolen his body, were separate people and wasn’t the same person, quickly realizing that the real Hwarang had his body stolen.

History[]

Original Timeline[]

In the original timeline, before Seongjun Lee traveled back in time and began altering events, Junho Yu was also one of the Warriors who sided against the world's 9-Warriors. However, he ended up dying at some point. While the circumstances are unknown, Seongjun stated that his "overly kind nature" played a huge role in it. Seongjun would attempt to save him by going back in time but was ultimately unable to.

Alternate Timelines[]

After inadvertently being sent back in time after dying from old age, Seongjun would use the opportunity to finally save the Verdant Warrior, which was one of his regrets in the original timeline. Junho would continue to survive every subsequent loop where Seongjun was part of the Rebel Warriors.

Unfortunately, Junho and Seongjun would ultimately end up becoming enemies, after the latter joined the 9-Warriors in hopes that he or one of the other Rebel Warriors might be able to kill him. This new antagonistic relationship continued when Seongjun began his plan to turn one of the 9-Warriors into a Demon Lord so that they could finally kill him.

Synopsis[]

Powers & Abilities[]

Verdant Hero[]

  • Plant Manipulation: Junho's abilities seem to be centered around the ability to manipulate plant life using magic, According to the author, he is primarily a support type specializing in healing. It is revealed that the moment he injures another person, his power can no longer be used, hence his complete lack of combat ability. As revealed in Chapter 105, Junho himself was given and embedded with non-combat related abilities, with him primarily being selected by the Tree God, Yggdrasil, to heal the “scars” of his world.
    • Healing: Junho’s main ability is his ability to magically heal others, As shown when he treated Jeongsu Park after his first fight with Minsu Kim and him using his abilities to heal soldiers and civilians during the 9-Warriors rampage. However, this ability has been implied to largely be driven from Yggdrasil and her children, as such, losing favor with them causes Junho’s powers to weaken, such as his healing abilities.
    • Children of Yggdrasil: Junho has showcased that his most powerful abilities primarily draws upon the children of the Tree God of the world of Verdant. Later, Junho showcased that he could summon them directly to assist him in combat, hinting that while he does not have powerful offensive abilities, his summons make up for it. However, a severe drawback to this ability is the fact that the spirits that he summons are able to choose to deny giving him assistance any time they choose should he lose their favor. As stated by Misteltien, when he finally turned to him and began using his power, Junho lost favor with Yggdrasil and its children, severely limiting and weakening his power.
      • Youngest Daughter of the Yggdrisil: Seed of the Dandelion: An ability where Junho conjures a dandelion to heal someone of sickness, instantly removing all harmful factors in the victim’s body. As shown, once conjured the dandelion fluff of the single flower scatters within a small area, curing anyone within the vicinity. This ability is powerful enough to instantly cure the victims of the Plague Hero’s plagues in an instant and even granting the former victims complete immunity to it.
        • Blossom: Spring Maiden Dandelion: By conjuring and planting a seed he creates and reciting some incantations, Junho can create a whole field of Dandelions that then spread their fluff in a wide area, completely curing anyone caught in its radius of sickness and disease and granting them immunity to them.
      • Second Son of Yggdrasil - Wisteria: As stated by one of his summons Misteltien, Junho can call upon the second son of Yggdrasil Wisteria to help him and use techniques.
        • Tree Fortress: Using Wisteria, Junho can create a massive tree barrier. Using this technique, Junho managed to create a bunker to protect the soldiers and civilians during the battle of the Shield Hero and Exorcism Hero against the 9 Warriors and heal them. However, as noted by Misteltien, this barrier would not be able to hold up if any of the 9 warriors attacked it directly and it was dangerous to place it right in the middle of the battlefield.
      • Illegitimate Child of Yggdrasil - Thorn Spirit Misteltien: As shown, this summons of Junho takes the form of a humanoid/dryad-like creature. As implied by Misteltien, unlike the other summons of Junho, his powers are more focused on offensive and combat. Hinting that he was the only summon in Junho’s armory that was for combat. Later, when he decided to finally use Misteltien, Junho gained significant combat prowess, having now been able to overpower Hwarang as the Vampire Warrior and later, managed to put up a decent fight against Minsu Kim. However, this particular spirit is also malevolent and is not entirely on Junho’s side, as shown where after convincing him to accept and use his power, Misteltien quickly grew bored with helping Junho and quickly placed a limitation on his new powers before proceeding to say that he will no longer help him. Furthermore, as the price of attaining his power, Junho must bear the hatred of Yggdrasil and her children, causing him to become “sullied” and lose favor with the tree and its children and thus lose access to a bulk of his power.
        • Transformation: After finally accepting to use Misteltien, Junho underwent a transformation. As shown, his armor became more menacing and he gained a wooden mask. In this form, Junho’s physical abilities and combat prowess was enhanced and he could now keep up with and even overpower the combat oriented heroes such as Hwarang Hong and Minsu Kim.
        • Arrows:As showcased when he fought Minsu, Junho’s main weapon in his new form was his bow and arrows provided by Misteltien. As shown, Misteltien himself is the one who provides these arrows to Junho and each shot packs a significant amount of destructive power. As shown where several of his shots were enough to push Minsu back and create gigantic craters in the battlefield. However, as Misteltien himself is the one who conjures these arrows for Junho to use, Junho is now entirely dependent on the spirit to provide him more and the spirit himself can choose to limit or even stop providing him with arrows. During his fight against Minsu Kim, Misteltien grew bored with helping Junho, and before leaving him, placed a five arrow limit to his new power. During his fight against Minsu, Junho was forced to use four out of the five, leaving him with a single shot left.
          • Trajectory Manipulation: As shown during the final battle against Minsu Kim, Junho could freely manipulst ethe trajectory and movement of his arrows once shot. As shown when he manilpulated his final arrow to curve, bend and swerve in order to make it attack Minsu Kim in his backside while avoiding Yerin Ma’s own attack.
        • Thorn Vines: During his fight against Hwarang, Junho showcased the ability to summon and control several thick wooden thorn vines to attack him. Successfully crushing him to mince meat and destroying his head in their battle and forcing the latter to go into the defensive.
    • Wood Manipulation: The Verdant Hero can seemingly grow and create an organic wood-like material he can use to fashion prosthetic limbs. A shown where he replaced Jeongsu’s missing right hand with a wooden one, with Jeongus himself noting the hardness and durability of his new hand noting that it was even stronger than the original. The Verdant Warrior himself admitted that his horns are also made from the same material. The Verdant Warrior himself has some control over the prosthetic limbs he creates, allowing him to render them inert at will, as shown when he disabled Jeongsu’s new hand when he started becoming needlessly violent.

Equipment[]

  • Bow: Upon accepting Mistltien’s offer to gain combat power, Junho can now fight using a bow made form thorned wood. As shown, shots fired using this bow is extremely power and Junho himself can use it in close combat by using the bow to strike his opponent.

Trivia[]

  • In the QnA, it is revealed that Junho is actually a male. (The hero doesn't seem to care about their gender)
  • The Verdant World that he was summoned to was stated to have been relatively peaceful. With Junho comparing it to a children’s story book world, where he, the Hero, did not have to fight in order to save the world.
    • This, along with the drawback that Junho can not injure another person, implies that along with the Magic Hero, Yerin Ma, Junho was one of the weakest heroes in terms of combat ability. With the only difference being that Junho’s greatest strength is his abilities as a support for other Heroes.
      • Junho has implied that by giving up his healing ability, he is able to fight for a moment.
