Yerin Ma is a supporting character in The Warrior Returns. She is the Magic Warrior and a member of the 9-Warriors. However, it is eventually revealed that she is actually a spy for the Reconstructed Government and later switches sides when her cover is blown.
Appearance[]
Human[]
In her human form, Yerin Ma appears to be in her early 20s, with long bark-brown hair tied into pigtails and brown eyes. She wears her school uniform, which includes a gray suit over a black sweater, a red tie, and an office-style skirt. She pairs this with pantyhose and white sneakers.
Warrior[]
In her Hero form as a Magical Girl, Yerin’s eyes and hair turn pink, with her hair becoming extremely long and styled in pigtails tied with white ribbons. She wears a white choker with a pink bow tie, and her tight sleeves also feature small bows. Her outfit includes a pink dress with a white-trimmed, arched back, and a long pink skirt ending mid-thigh. She wears thigh-high white stockings resembling boots, each adorned with pink bows. Yerin wields a hollowed heart staff with a large candy on top, decorated with four sets of wings.
Personality[]
Yerin Ma is pragmatic, mature, and initially reluctant to confront the more powerful Warriors. However, as events unfold, she finds the courage to face them directly, undeterred by the risks to her life.
History[]
Current Timeline[]
Yerin Ma was on her way home with a cake to celebrate her sister’s birthday. While talking to her mother on the phone, she learned that her mother had already bought a cake. She stopped to see if she could get a refund or exchange it for something else. Distracted by the call, she didn’t notice a construction accident—a fridge fell from a tall building and crushed her before she could react. This incident led to her being summoned to another world, where she was tasked with defeating a demon lord who threatened that realm.
After saving the other world, Yerin returned home only to find her own world in chaos. She discovered that two factions of heroes existed: those intent on destroying and enslaving humanity, and those striving to protect it. Rather than aligning with either side, she focused on protecting her family, knowing she lacked the strength to fight the other heroes. Her demon lord was far weaker than those faced by other heroes, so she fled with her family and other refugees to safety.
Life became a constant struggle as she cared for her ill mother and younger sister. Initially, Yerin avoided getting involved in the heroes’ conflicts, focusing instead on defending the refugees—including her family—from collateral damage, such as stray missiles.
Eventually, her identity was exposed during an investigation following an incident where she protected the refugees from an attack. The reconstructed government approached her, convincing her to act as a spy within the Sword Hero’s faction. In exchange, they promised to safeguard her family. Though reluctant, Yerin agreed to gather intelligence on the Sword Hero’s faction, understanding that the government depended on her to uphold humanity’s hope in the face of looming destruction.
Original Timeline[]
In chapters 61 & 62, it is revealed that in the original timeline, before Seongjun Lee traveled back in time and began altering events, Yerin was one of the rebel warriors who opposed that world's 9-Warriors. After the war, she eventually started a romantic relationship with Hwarang Hong, where they end up having a daughter.
Synopsis[]
The Reconstruction Government Raid[]
Later when Garam Lee track down the reconstructed government base she and the 6 heroes went into the base to slaughter the remaining refugees of South Korea. After Jeongsu Park and Kim fought each other in critical condition Yerin Ma later betrayed the faction and assist the injured Park and fled to a remote island of Indonesia while 50,000 people were sacrificed.
Powers & Abilities[]
Magic Hero[]
Yerin Ma has been stated by various characters, including herself, to be the weakest of all the Warriors in the series. This mainly stems from warriors typically only being slightly stronger than their respective Demon Lord, and hers being fairly weak.
Her power originates from the crystal, Sweet Crystal, in her staff, being unable to use any of her abilities without it and instantly reverting to her human form if it is destroyed. She is also noted to have a weak physique, as she never bothered to train and exceed her limits on account of how relatively easy she had it in the other world.
Using the staff she received, Yerin could perform various magic-candy-themed attacks, skills, and spells upon transforming into her hero form.
- Sugar Dust Stream: Using her staff, Yerin could fire a pink blast of magical energy and candy at her target. Yerin herself could manipulate the overall power of the blast itself can be increased and its overall destructive power by increasing the amount of power she puts into it.
- Candy-Destroyer: A ability where Yerin transforms the tip of her magic staff into a spiked hammer to pulverize her opponent.
- Molten Lava Cake: Caramel: A trap ability that Yerin can pre-prepare in advance. This ability allows Yerin to create a hidden landmine of molten caramel that she can activate and detonate at will once her target is within range. The trap itself covers her opponent in molten caramel that immediately hardens once it touches the air, paralyzing whoever is covered in it and leaving them helpless to defend against her attack.
- Partial Transformation: Later, after the Vampire Hero destroyed the jewel of her staff, Yerin lost access to her original powers as the Magic Hero. Forcing her to improvise by stabbing the jewels remains into her fists in order to partially transform herself and regain access to her powers.
- Magic Robot: Later, due to no longer having her staff, Yerin instead made use of a robot as her new weapon and likely as a new way to channel her powers as the Magic Hero. As shown from the Robot’s design, it was likely built using the leftover parts of the previous Reformation Hero, Marie Stevenson’s Robot, fused together with Nyancaron. As shown, using this Armor, Yerin more or less regained access to the same abilities she had originally while transformed.
- Sugar Dust Beam - Kaleidescope: Yerin’s Ma’s ultimate attack. By scattering several glass like candy fragment around her and then firing pink beams from her robot’s palms, the beams refract and reflect off of the fragments before concentrating and focusing into a single laser beam.
Familiar[]
Nyancaron: Nyancaron is Yerin’s partner and the one to originally give her the Magic Staff that grants her, her powers. Nyancaron itself takes the form of a floating white cat head in between two pink macarons with a tail. Nyancaron itself also acts as Yerin’s familiar and can give her assistance in battle.
- Strong Strong: As seen during her fight against the Vampire Hero, Nyancaron can transform its arms and legs into a bulky-muscular form to fight.
- Dessert Strike: An attack where Nyancaron focuses and pumps their remaining power into their arm in order to to transform it into muscular fist to deliver a powerful punch;
- Pink Barrier: Nyancaron shifts into a larger, elongated form as it holds out its paws to manifest a pink barrier made up of pink hexagons. This barrier has been shown to be durable enough to block a small number of Missiles fired from the Transformation Warrior
Trivia[]
- Given the fact that Korea was already being attacked by the other 9-Warriors when she returned, it's possible that Yerin is the second-to-last Hero to be summoned and returned to her home world after the Spear Hero.
- According to Narak's Q&A session with Yongdol Gallery, it was clarified that the difference between Yerin Ma's World of Magic and Yuseong's World of Magic is that Yerin Ma is the world of magical girls.
